76-Year-Old Woman Gives Birth to Baby Boy in Northern Ethiopia

In what many are calling an act of divine intervention, a 76-year-old woman, Woizero Medhin, has reportedly given birth to a healthy baby boy in Mekelle, the capital of Ethiopia’s Tigray region. The remarkable birth has captured the hearts of many, not only for its rarity but for the deeply spiritual and communal significance it holds.

Speaking to local outlet Dimtse Woyane, Woizero Medhin expressed quiet awe at the momentous event. “I did not feel it when I conceived… God’s will happened,” she said calmly, surrounded by family and well-wishers. The birth, believed to have taken place roughly 40 days ago, was revealed publicly on the day of the child’s baptism—timed in line with Ethiopian Orthodox Church traditions.

While many of the clinical details—such as the name of the hospital and the exact medical circumstances—have yet to be made public, social media accounts have claimed that the delivery was natural, with no cesarean intervention involved. If confirmed, this would add another layer of astonishment to an already extraordinary case.

The atmosphere in Mekelle was festive and full of wonder during the baby’s baptism. A video shared by Dimtse Woyaneshowed large crowds gathered to celebrate, singing and rejoicing in what many described as a “miracle of faith.” One young man, believed to be a family member, told reporters, “Nothing is impossible for the Holy Savior.”Ethiopia

Adding to the surreal nature of the story, Woizero Medhin is not a first-time mother. She reportedly has other grown-up children, making her recent experience all the more baffling to many and inspiring to others.

Although there is no formal medical report yet, experts and observers worldwide are likely to weigh in as more information becomes available. Medically, childbirth at such an advanced age is almost unheard of without assisted reproductive technology, which raises questions about the background of the pregnancy.

Yet for many in Ethiopia and beyond, the focus is less on science and more on faith, resilience, and the unshakable belief in miracles.

In a world often dominated by skeptical headlines and uncertainty, the story of Woizero Medhin has brought with it a glimmer of something different—hope, mystery, and the sense that life can still surprise us in the most unexpected ways.
