Amazon Web Services Opens Lagos Office, Assures Locals Of Increased Commitment To Africa

IT company Amazon Web Services, Inc. (AWS) has opened its first office in Lagos, Nigeria.

On Tuesday, Amroti Abdullah, the company’s regional director for sub-Saharan Africa, said the office would increase its involvement in Africa.

“We are excited to open our first AWS office in Nigeria,” she said. “Lagos offers a pool of highly skilled and creative talent and the region is home to many fast-growing startups and prominent Nigerian companies that are at the forefront of digital innovation.”

Ms. Abdullah said the new Lagos office is part of AWS’ support for the growing number of customers and partners in Nigeria.

AWS, an Amazon subsidiary, provides website hosting, backup, digital marketing, analytics, application integration, blockchain, networking, and other related services to customers around the world.

“We look forward to empowering the country’s entrepreneurial spirit and helping our clients accelerate their digital transformation by bringing new and innovative products and services to the Nigerian community,” added Ms. Abdullah.

Ms. Abdullah also mentioned that AWS Activate Startups provides the resources they need to get started with AWS, including up to $100,000 in credits, training, support, and networking with incubators, accelerators, and venture capital firms.

According to her, AWS Academy helps college students and educators develop knowledge and skills about AWS cloud computing to accelerate cloud-related learning.

The regional director said that AWS Academy member institutions in Nigeria include University of Benin, University of Jos and Igpension University.
