Jay-Z has emerged victorious in his ongoing legal battle against perfume company Parlux, with a New York state appeals court ruling in his favor.

The court upheld a previous jury verdict from 2021, stating that Jay-Z was not at fault in the cologne endorsement deal and therefore did not owe Parlux an estimated $67 million in damages. Instead, the court agreed that Jay-Z was actually owed money by the company, specifically $6.8 million in unpaid royalties.

The dispute dates back to 2013 when Jay-Z collaborated with Parlux to release a fragrance named “Gold Jay-Z.”

However, in 2016, Parlux filed a lawsuit against the rapper, alleging that he had failed to promote the cologne as agreed upon, resulting in poor sales. Jay-Z countersued, asserting that he had fulfilled his obligations and was owed money by Parlux.

After a three-week trial in late 2021, the jury predominantly ruled in Jay-Z’s favor. Subsequently, in August 2022, a New York Supreme Court justice determined that Parlux owed the rapper a total of $6.78 million in royalties, including interest.

Parlux still has the option to challenge the rulings by taking the case to the Court of Appeals. However, as of now, the company has not responded to inquiries regarding its course of action.

In other news, Jay-Z’s entertainment agency, Roc Nation, recently revealed plans for a casino in New York City’s Times Square. The agency believes that winning the license for the project would generate billions of dollars in economic benefits for the city.
