Nigerian travel content creator, Alma Asinobi, has made history by completing a record-setting journey across all seven continents in 71 hours, 26 minutes, and 25 seconds. This remarkable feat not only demonstrates her determination but also establishes the Nigerian flag as the first and fastest to reach every continent in such a short timeframe.
Journey Overview
Asinobi’s expedition took her through Antarctica, South America, North America, Europe, Africa, Asia, and finally, Australia. She concluded her journey in Sydney, where she shared her excitement and relief. In an Instagram post, she wrote: “Our Nigerian flag is officially the first and fastest flag to visit all 7 continents! I guess my work here is done. I cannot wait to be homeeeee.”
Challenges Encountered
The journey was fraught with difficulties, including visa restrictions, flight delays, and logistical hurdles tied to her Nigerian passport. Notably, Asinobi was denied boarding on her initial flight to Perth, Australia, forcing her to book an alternative flight to Sydney, which contributed to a delay in her schedule.
Even after completing her mission, the intensity of the experience lingered. She recounted waking up in a panic from a dream about missing a final boarding call. “Gosh… Continent 8 (Dreamland) was kind to me. No visas needed, no flight needed, just a bed. To be honest, any bed would have been fine. I just needed my swollen feet to not move for a few hours and all I can say is… mission accomplished,” she reflected.
While Asinobi did not surpass the existing Guinness World Record of 64 hours set by American veteran Johnny Cruz Buckingham, her achievement remains monumental. Her journey has sparked discussions around passport inequality and the challenges Nigerians face regarding global mobility.
- Asinobi is set to return to Nigeria, where she plans to celebrate this achievement by hosting a homecoming event on March 30. At the event, she aims to set another record by gathering Nigerians to sign the very flag she carried across the world, transforming her personal victory into a shared moment of national pride.
Alma Asinobi’s journey goes beyond speed and endurance—it is a testament to resilience, determination, and the spirit of exploration. Her accomplishment not only shines a light on the challenges of international travel for Nigerians but also serves as an inspiration for others to dream big and push boundaries.
