U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken has embarked on a diplomatic tour across Africa, commencing his journey in Cape Verde. The visit underscores the United States’ dedication to becoming a pivotal economic and security ally for the continent during times of regional and international challenges.
In a meeting with Prime Minister Ulisses Correia e Silva in Cape Verde’s capital, Praia, Blinken reaffirmed the U.S. commitment to strengthening partnerships with Africa.

“As President Biden has said, we are all in when it comes to Africa,” stated Blinken, highlighting the administration’s dedication to a long-term partnership with the continent. The focus of the visit revolves around trade, security, and the promotion of democracy.
Following the Cape Verde meetings, Blinken flew to the Ivory Coast, where he engaged with President Alassane Ouattara and senior government officials.
Discussions centered around shared priorities, including strengthening democracy, expanding trade, and enhancing local and regional security.

The Cape Verdean Prime Minister, Ulisses Correia e Silva, described Cape Verde as a “longstanding and consistent partner” of the U.S. He expressed the desire to enhance collaboration, particularly in maritime security and cybersecurity.
As Blinken’s tour progresses to Nigeria and Angola, the focus remains on reinforcing diplomatic ties, promoting trade, and addressing the evolving security landscape on the continent.
