For the month of September, iLove Africa proudly shines the spotlight on Princess Rose Cliff, a remarkable woman breaking barriers with grace and determination. Princess Rose, a beautiful and inspiring individual living with albinism, has dedicated her life to changing the narrative surrounding albinism. Through her advocacy, she empowers people with albinism to live their lives fully and boldly. We sat down with her to discuss her experiences and the lessons she’s learned along the way.

Growing Up with Albinism: Overcoming Challenges and Finding Strength

When asked about her childhood, Princess Rose described it as a difficult journey filled with challenges. “It was quite devastating because I was bullied and discriminated against,” she revealed. “People would make hurtful comments or treat me differently because of my appearance.” Despite these hardships, she refused to let her circumstances define her. Instead, she pushed forward, learning to embrace who she is. “I tried to make it work. I had to find the strength to rise above the negativity and find confidence in myself.”

I am also very grateful for my mother, she made sure I didn’t feel different. Even though I am the only albino in my family.

Her story is one of resilience and determination—a true example for anyone facing adversity. Princess Rose’s experiences have not only made her stronger but have also fueled her passion for changing perceptions and advocating for those like her.

Debunking Myths: Common Misconceptions about Albinism

One of the most significant aspects of Princess Rose’s advocacy is educating others about the realities of living with albinism. She spoke about some of the common misconceptions that still persist today. “People say that albinos can’t eat pepper or that we can only see at night, not in the afternoon,” she said with a smile. “These myths are simply not true, and it’s important to correct these misconceptions.”

Her efforts to raise awareness aim to dismantle such myths and replace them with understanding and compassion. Albinism, after all, is not a limitation but a unique feature of the human spectrum.

Inspiring Self-Love: Advice for Young People with Albinism

When we asked Princess Rose what advice she would give to young people living with albinism, her words were deeply empowering. “Remember that you are the creativity of God Himself. Therefore, nothing can dim your light,” she urged. Her message is one of self-love and confidence—a reminder that albinism should not limit anyone’s potential or self-worth.

By owning their uniqueness, Princess Rose encourages others with albinism to rise above society’s limited view and embrace the boundless possibilities within themselves.

Accomplishments and Dreams: Spreading Awareness and Aiming for Global Impact

Among her many accomplishments, Princess Rose takes pride in her involvement with an NGO focused on raising awareness about albinism. Through this platform, she spreads messages of hope and education to communities worldwide. Additionally, her social media pages have become a powerful tool to further her advocacy, allowing her to connect with others and challenge outdated narratives.

Looking ahead, Princess Rose aspires to take her work to a global stage. “I wish to work with the UN to spread the word even further,” she shared. Her vision of creating a world where people with albinism are accepted and celebrated for who they are is both inspiring and achievable.

Princess Rose Cliff is a beacon of light in the world of advocacy for albinism, and her work continues to inspire countless others.

As our iLove Africa Icon of the Month, she reminds us all that beauty, strength, and purpose come in many forms. Through her journey, she shows that breaking barriers begins with embracing who you truly are and boldly stepping into the world as the brilliant light you were always meant to be.
