Former Newcastle striker Christian Atsu is still missing nine days after an earthquake hit Turkey leaving his publicist asking for more resources to help with the rescue effort.
Nana Sechere said that while two pairs of Atsu’s shoes were found in the rubble, the player himself was still missing as the search for him continued.
The Ghana international was declared missing a day after the 7.8 magnitude earthquake that struck Turkey and Syria last Monday.

In an update via Twitter, Atsu’s agent Nana Sechere confirmed that the search is ongoing but some of Atsu’s belongings have been found.
“Nine days have passed since the earthquake and we still cannot find the Christians. I am with Christian’s family at the site of the Hatay earthquake.” He wrote.

“Yesterday we received confirmation that the thermal camera shows signs of up to 5 lives, but I am told that the only true confirmation of life is by sight, smell and sound and unfortunately we have not been able to locate Christian.
“Things are going very slowly and because of this many rescue operations are delayed and lives are lost due to lack of resources for workers. It’s a shame the club isn’t side by side with us on the spot in finding a Christian.

“We are appealing to the Club President and Hatay Mayor Lütfü Savaş to provide additional resources to expedite the rescue effort…”
The former Newcastle United and Chelsea player joined Turkey last September and scored his first goal for Hatayspor just hours before the devastating earthquake. To date, the disaster has cost the lives of more than 35,000 people.
