Disney and Kugali Unveil Trailer for Futuristic African Animated Series ‘Iwájú’

Walt Disney Animation Studios, in collaboration with Pan-African Comic Book Entertainment Company Kugali, has released the highly anticipated trailer for their groundbreaking series “Iwájú.” Set against the backdrop of a futuristic Lagos, Nigeria, the limited series promises to take viewers on an exhilarating journey filled with mystery, adventure, and the spirit of Africa.

The trailer offers a tantalizing glimpse into the world of “Iwájú,” showcasing breathtaking visuals and innovative storytelling. The series follows the coming-of-age story of Tola, a young girl from the wealthy island, and her best friend, Kole, a self-taught tech expert, as they navigate the secrets and dangers hidden in their contrasting worlds.

“Iwájú” is brought to life by an exceptional voice cast, including Simisola Gbadamosi as Tola, Dayo Okeniyi, Femi Branch, Siji Soetan as Kole, and Weruche Opia. The series is produced by Disney Animation’s Christina Chen, with a screenplay by Adeola and Halima Hudson.

One of the standout features of “Iwájú” is its authentic African-inspired music, composed by Nigerian composer Ré Olunuga. The soundtrack, set to be released on March 1st, captures the essence of Lagos and its vibrant culture, while also paying homage to the rich musical traditions of Nollywood.

IwajuOlunuga shared his excitement about the project, stating, “Being invited by Ziki and the amazing teams at Disney and Kugali to help tell this beautiful coming-of-age story that explores themes of family, friendship, and ingenuity has been an amazing adventure in itself.”

With its groundbreaking animation, captivating storyline, and authentic representation of African culture, “Iwájú” is poised to make a significant impact in the world of entertainment. The series is set to premiere with six episodes on February 28th, promising audiences an unforgettable viewing experience that celebrates the beauty and diversity of Africa.
