South Africa is a beautiful country situated in the African continent marked by several distinct ecosystems. It is the southernmost country on the mainland of the Old World or the Eastern Hemisphere. It is a country enriched with so many cultures which lighten up their lifestyle. Some of these cultures are :

  1. Food

If you eventually set foot on South African soil, please do not leave without having  enjoyed the traditional al fresco braai, as much for the barbecued food as for the cultural experience. Follow it up with the popular melktert. A creamy glass of Amarula (liqueur) will definitely take you on a trip to the wonder land. There are other nice dishes like : Chakalaka, Billing, Potjiekos, Apricot Blatant, Malva Pudding and many others.

  1. Music

Music is life in South Africa. Their music genre comes in diverse genres which means you are not going to be left behind.

The South African music scene includes Kwaito , a new music genre that had developed in the mid-1980s and has since developed to become the most popular socio-economic form of representation among the populace. There are several annual music festivals including Oppikoppi, Rocking the Daisies and Splashy Fen. The music festivals cater for different genres and styles of music.

South Africa’s art and craft scene reflects the country’s rich cultural diversity. South African arts and crafts are made from every possible medium. When you come to South Africa, the beauty of the arts and crafts of the people is mesmerizing. You would love their beads, leather works and even their clay creativity. There are souvenirs that you would want to keep for ages when you visit.

 

  1. Sexual orientation

South Africa enacted same-sex marriage laws in 2006 allowing full marriage and adoption rights to same-sex couples. In South Africa, a couple has a choice to have their relationship legally registered as a marriage or a civil partnership.  You are free to live as you want when it comes to sexual orientation in this country.

  1. Sports

South Africa is no doubt, a sports crazy nation. The most popular sports in South Africa are soccer , rugby and cricket . Other sports that makes the waves are hockey, swimming , athletics, golf , boxing and tennis. Other sports like basketball, surfing , and skateboarding are increasingly gaining popularity by the day.

There are lots of things you may want to do in this great country. If there is something you should not miss, it is the culture of the people. From afar, the drumming of the South African heritage will keep you glue until you are through with exploring its stunning art work. There is hardly a place in South Africa that is not beautifully decorated. When next you are coming to this country, bear it in mind that there are lots of things to learn and experience.
