In a culinary feat that has captivated the nation, Ghanaian chef Failatu Abdul-Razak has seemingly shattered the world record by cooking continuously for over 227 hours.
Wrapped in the Ghanaian flag, Abdul-Razak concluded her impressive cook-a-thon with an emotional salute to the crowd in Tamale on Wednesday.
Dubbing the cooking marathon a “national assignment,” Abdul-Razak expressed her dedication to Ghana, garnering cheers from onlookers as she exited the hotel kitchen. Her team plans to submit evidence to Guinness World Records (GWR) for official verification.

GWR acknowledged Abdul-Razak’s accomplishment on social media, stating, “We look forward to reviewing her evidence!” The current record holder, Irishman Alan Fisher, cooked for 119 hours and 57 minutes, making Abdul-Razak’s attempt a noteworthy milestone.
Asserting her desire to make breaking her record a challenging task, Abdul-Razak received widespread support from politicians, celebrities, and even the Ghanaian military. Vice-President Mahamudu Bawumia and numerous public figures rallied behind the chef throughout her remarkable endeavor.
This achievement follows a trend of record-breaking feats in West Africa, with Hilda Baci causing excitement in Nigeria last year, only to be surpassed by Alan Fisher. Additionally, Ghanaian media personality Afua Asantewaa recently completed a five-day singing marathon in December, aiming for her own Guinness World Record. The culinary and artistic pursuits reflect the region’s determination to leave an indelible mark on the global stage.
