In a major operation, Ghana’s National Security has uncovered a massive stash of US dollars, Ghana Cedis, and suspected counterfeit currency hidden in twelve 20-foot shipping containers. The discovery was made at a warehouse in Sapeiman, within the Ga South Municipality, following an intelligence-led operation.
Authorities revealed that the money, primarily in US dollars, was concealed in wooden boxes filled with cement to evade detection. Additional stacks of cash were found inside boxes barricaded with plywood and sealed with charcoal, further complicating efforts to trace the illicit funds.

During the sting operation, National Security operatives also uncovered several boxes of metals suspected to be gold bars, alongside fake Ghana Army uniforms and boots. Counterfeit Ghana cedi notes in 50 and 100 denominations were also discovered in the warehouse.
Officials have confirmed that while twelve containers were initially tracked to the location, two remain unaccounted for. Security forces are actively pursuing leads to locate the missing containers.
A manhunt is now underway for four suspects linked to the operation, including a key figure identified only as Alhaji. Authorities believe the suspects played a central role in the illegal operation, and efforts are ongoing to bring them to justice.
The National Security has assured the public that investigations are in full swing to dismantle the network behind the operation, emphasizing their commitment to cracking down on financial crimes and threats to the nation’s economic stability.
