An 11-year-old boy from Mississippi, who was shot by a police officer after calling 911 for help, has been released from the hospital, according to his family. While this has sparked calls for the officer involved to be fired and charged, details of this controversial incident grows even more disturbing daily.
The shooting took place when an officer from the Indianola Police Department responded to a domestic disturbance call at the child’s home.
The boy’s mother, Nakala Murry, stated that she asked her son, Aderrien, to call the police due to concerns for her safety. Upon arrival, the officer had his gun drawn and requested the occupants to come outside. As Aderrien came around the corner of a hallway into the living room, he was shot by the officer, despite complying with the instructions.

Aderrien suffered serious injuries, including a collapsed lung, fractured ribs, and a lacerated liver. He received medical treatment at the University of Mississippi Medical Center and was released on Wednesday.
The family’s attorney, Carlos Moore, has requested the release of body camera footage, which reportedly captured the incident, but the request has been denied due to an ongoing investigation. The officer involved, Greg Capers, has been placed on paid administrative leave while the shooting is investigated.
The Mississippi Bureau of Investigation is currently assessing the incident and gathering evidence. The community, outraged by the shooting, plans to hold a sit-in protest at Indianola City Hall to demand justice for Aderrien.
As the investigation continues, the incident has drawn attention to the need for transparency and accountability in police actions. The family hopes that their son’s case will bring about meaningful change and prevent similar incidents from occurring in the future.
