In a stunning move, the Philadelphia Eagles have signed quarterback Jalen Hurts to a record-breaking contract worth $255 million over six years.

The deal, which includes $150 million in guaranteed money, is the largest in NFL history for a quarterback.

The announcement was made at a press conference held by Eagles owner Jeffrey Lurie, who praised Hurts for his outstanding performance on and off the field.

“Jalen is an incredible athlete and an even better person,” Lurie said. “He has shown tremendous leadership and poise under pressure, and we believe he has what it takes to lead this team to greatness for years to come.”

Hurts, who was drafted by the Eagles in the second round of the 2020 NFL Draft, had an impressive rookie season, throwing for 2,061 yards and 12 touchdowns while rushing for 354 yards and three touchdowns. He also set an NFL record for the most rushing yards by a quarterback in his first four starts.

“I’m honored and humbled to receive this contract,” Hurts said. “I’m grateful to the Eagles organization for believing in me and giving me the opportunity to lead this team. I’m excited to get to work and bring a championship to Philadelphia.”

The contract puts Hurts in the same league as some of the NFL’s highest-paid quarterbacks, including Patrick Mahomes and Dak Prescott.

It also underscores the Eagles’ commitment to building a championship team around Hurts, who is seen as the franchise’s quarterback of the future.
