Lagos, Nigeria, and Accra, Ghana, have made waves by securing spots among the world’s top 13 cities for nightlife, according to Time Out, a global lifestyle and entertainment magazine. Lagos claimed an impressive 6th place, while Accra followed closely, ranking 10th on the prestigious list, beating out popular cities like Rotterdam and Manchester.
The ranking, released by Time Out, is a testament to the dynamic nightlife culture both cities have cultivated, offering locals and tourists an electrifying after-dark experience. Known for its Afrobeats origins, Lagos boasts a nightlife scene that scored 80% for quality.
Venues like Freedom Park and The House on Victoria Island are central to the city’s vibrant party culture, hosting everything from afro house club nights to salsa events and networking gatherings. In addition to the pulsating music and lively atmosphere, Lagos nightlife is known for its affordability, scoring 48% in that category, making it a hotspot for budget-conscious fun-seekers.

Accra, on the other hand, earned a 66% quality score for its nightlife and 36% for affordability. Popular hangouts like Osu’s bustling bars and Labadi Beach’s all-night parties are central to the city’s nightlife offerings.
Accra’s social scene has bounced back strongly post-pandemic, with outdoor venues, rooftop bars, and live DJ sets becoming the new trend. Kofi Dotse, a local nightlife expert, highlighted how Accra’s nightlife is thriving more than ever: “It’s all about outdoor vibes now. From open-air concerts to art festivals, the energy is unmatched.”
