LeBron James, renowned basketball player and philanthropist, has once again demonstrated his commitment to making a positive impact in his community.
Recently, his foundation proudly inaugurated the I PROMISE Housing development in Akron, Ohio, providing affordable housing options for up to 50 families.
The housing development comprises a 50-unit building that offers two, three, and four-bedroom apartments, equipped with fiber-optic Wi-Fi, community spaces, and fitness rooms.
Notably, some units have been specially designed to cater to the mobility and sensory needs of residents, showcasing James’ dedication to inclusivity.
Dan DeVille, Vice Chair of East Akron Neighborhood Development Corporation, highlighted the importance of quality housing for young individuals, stating that it enhances their educational performance and cultivates their role as responsible citizens within the community.
Founded in 2004, the LeBron James Family Foundation has already made a significant impact by supporting over 1,400 students in the Akron area. Their programs, assistance, and mentorship initiatives have contributed to the academic success and personal development of these students.

Willie McGee, LJFF’s We Are Family Coach, emphasized the foundation’s mission to fill gaps and provide a cohesive support system for the community. He described the I PROMISE Housing development as a safe haven where families can find security, nutritious meals, and a peaceful rest, fulfilling the foundation’s objective.
Previously, the LeBron James Family Foundation ensured that children attending the I Promise School had their basic needs met, including daily meals and household stability.
They also offered assistance with job security and provided tuition-free college opportunities for students who graduated and enrolled at Kent State University or the University of Akron.
With the launch of the I PROMISE Housing development, the foundation aims to create a nurturing environment where students can thrive and grow, furthering its commitment to empowering the community.
