Malawi Tourism has become the new main shirt sponsor of Leganes from Spain and the slogan ‘Malawi, the warm heart of Africa’ will appear on the front of the first-team shirts from Sunday.
According to a statement on Leganés’ website, the club has reached an agreement with the Malawian Ministry of Tourism to stick to the ‘main sponsor’ strategy implemented by the club.
The strategy offers companies from different industries the opportunity to join the club and enjoy the exposure that a “main sponsor” brings.
In this way, the slogan “Malawi, the warm heart of Africa” will appear on the front of the first-team uniforms as well as in various media, both physical and digital, during the upcoming matches, part of the statement said.
The logo will appear on the team’s jerseys from this Sunday (2pm) in the round of 16 match against Levante UD at the Estádio Municipal do Butarque.

With the agreement, the club takes another step to begin developing various activities in Africa, said club president Jeff Lono.
“In Malawi, as in almost all of Africa, there is great potential for football and with this agreement we are taking it a step further to develop other processes,” said Lono.
The deal comes months after Lono met with chairman Lazarus Chakwera last September to forge closer ties and scout for opportunities and talent in football.
At the meeting, held with the club’s African partner Rainbow Sports, it was agreed that Leganés will start strengthening ties and seeking opportunities in the country, as part of the club’s global strategy to nurture football projects and talent to look for on the African continent.
In a statement, Tourism Ministry chief secretary Chauncey Simwaka said Malawi is proud to be associated with CD Leganes.
The deal aims to strengthen Malawi as a travel destination.
Club Deportivo Leganes was founded in 1928 and has its headquarters in Leganes, Autonomous Community of Madrid, Spain.
The club were promoted to La Liga in 2016 and stayed in the top flight of Spanish football for four seasons. They were relegated to the second division in 2020, where they currently play.
