South African authorities have apprehended a 34-year-old man for allegedly distributing explicit images featuring the faces of President Cyril Ramaphosa, Police Minister Bheki Cele, and Cele’s wife.
The suspect, whose identity has been withheld, is set to appear in court in Pretoria on Tuesday, facing charges of contravening the Cyber Crimes Act, which pertains to the unlawful access or processing of computer data.

According to police spokesperson Philani Nkwalase, the investigation was initiated in May after the explicit images began circulating. The suspect, located in the eastern city of Pietermaritzburg, was apprehended on Sunday. Authorities seized a device and SIM cards believed to have been used in the dissemination of the images.
While pornography itself is legal in South Africa, there are restrictions on its distribution. The case raises concerns regarding the unauthorized use of individuals’ faces in explicit content, particularly those holding public office. It also highlights the significance of cybercrime legislation and the enforcement of cyber-related offenses.
The arrest serves as a reminder of the legal consequences individuals may face for engaging in the distribution of explicit material without consent or in a manner that violates laws and regulations. As the case progresses, it will be closely observed to determine the outcome and potential impact on future similar incidents.
