In a groundbreaking moment for the fashion world, the 2025 Met Gala has named an all-Black male lineup of co-chairs for the first time in the event’s history. The Metropolitan Museum of Art, on Wednesday (October 9), revealed the star-studded list, aligning with this year’s theme, “Tailoring Black Style.”

The Costume Institute’s exhibition, inspired by Monica L. Miller’s 2009 book Slaves to Fashion: Black Dandyism and the Styling of Black Diasporic Identity, will spotlight the rich history of Black men’s style, drawing connections between fashion, art, and cultural identity. The exhibition will showcase garments, paintings, and photographs that celebrate Black dandyism and the influence of Black men in fashion across the globe.

The 2025 Met Gala will be co-chaired by actor Colman Domingo, race car driver Lewis Hamilton, and musicians A$AP Rocky and Pharrell Williams. NBA legend LeBron James will also make his debut at the prestigious event, serving as an honorary co-chair. This marks the first time that all the co-chairs for fashion’s biggest night are Black men, a significant moment for representation and diversity in the industry.

Domingo, who made waves with his previous Met Gala appearance, will return for his second showing, while Williams, Rocky, and Hamilton are familiar faces at the event. Williams previously served as a co-chair in 2017 for the “Rei Kawakubo/Comme des Garçons: Art of the In-Between” theme. Anna Wintour will continue her long-standing role as chair, ensuring the event remains a pinnacle of fashion and cultural expression.

The exhibition, titled “Superfine: Tailoring Black Style,” will run from May 6 to October 26, 2025, and promises to be a celebration of Black creativity and sartorial excellence. The dress code for the gala will be revealed in early 2025, but the anticipation is already building for what is expected to be a landmark event in Met Gala history.

As the Met Gala continues to evolve, this milestone highlights a significant shift in the representation of Black talent in the world of high fashion.
