Morocco remains ‘largest exporter of passenger vehicle’ to Europe’

Morocco remains the largest qprovider of cars to Europe, surpassing traditional heavyweights such as Germany and France.

The North African country’s automotive industry has seen a significant boost in recent years, with investments from leading car manufacturers such as Renault, PSA Peugeot Citroen, and Ford.

According to the Moroccan Association for the Automotive Industry and Trade (AMICA), the country’s car exports rose by 21% in 2021, totaling 533,000 vehicles. This figure accounted for almost one-third of the total car exports from North Africa.

Morocco’s strategic location, proximity to Europe, and the country’s competitive labor costs have been key factors in attracting automakers to set up production facilities in the country.

Additionally, the Moroccan government’s investment in infrastructure and its support for the automotive industry has helped to create a favorable business environment for the sector.

The Moroccan automotive industry has also benefited from trade agreements such as the Euro-Mediterranean Partnership, which provides for duty-free access to the European Union (EU) market for Moroccan-made cars.

Morocco has also signed a free trade agreement with Turkey, which has enabled the country to increase its exports to the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region.

The Moroccan government aims to double the country’s automotive production to one million vehicles per year by 2025.

The country’s automotive industry has created thousands of jobs, and the government plans to further develop the sector to generate more employment opportunities and boost economic growth.

Overall, Morocco’s success as the largest provider of cars to Europe highlights the country’s growing importance as a manufacturing hub and a key player in the global automotive industry.
