Morocco took a significant step towards sustainable transportation with the unveiling of a hydrogen car prototype built by Moroccan Engineers.
The initiative, supported by King Mohammed VI, is expected to boost the nation’s “Made in Morocco” brand while contributing to the global transition to cleaner energy sources.
The prototype called the Hydrogen Utility Vehicle (HUV), was showcased alongside a replica of the “Neo Motors” automobile, a Moroccan capital-owned business.
Manufactured by NamX, the HUV features a central hydrogen tank and six detachable capsules, allowing for an extended driving range and quick hydrogen refueling in just a few minutes.
NamX’s proprietary technology utilizes detachable capsules and a stationary hydrogen tank, addressing the increasing demand for hydrogen and hybrid vehicles worldwide. The company plans to launch the HUV model in 2025, aligning with the global trend toward decarbonization.

This groundbreaking project showcases Morocco’s national expertise and its emergence as a consumer automobile brand. The country’s network of regional car suppliers has played a crucial role in achieving this milestone.
To develop the prototype, NamX collaborated with the Italian design firm and coachbuilder, Pininfarina. Moroccan designers were responsible for the interior decor, highlighting the country’s talent and creativity in the automotive industry.
Furthermore, Neo Motors Company, with an anticipated annual capacity of 27,000 units and a local integration rate of 65%, has established an industrial facility in Ain Aouda, Rabat-Salé-Kenitra Region.
This facility will produce motor cars for both the domestic market and export purposes, reinforcing Morocco’s commitment to sustainable transportation and economic growth.
The hydrogen car prototype represents Morocco’s active participation in the global movement towards efficient and environmentally conscious modes of transportation.
