Nigeria’s National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) has issued a recall order for a batch of Sprite glass bottles amidst concerns of potential contamination.
The recall was prompted by a consumer complaint, leading to an investigation that revealed the presence of particles in over five crates of the implicated batch of Sprite 50cl glass bottles. However, the specific nature of the particles and their potential health implications have not been disclosed by the authorities.
The Nigerian Bottling Company Limited’s Abuja plant has been directed to recall the affected batch, although the company has yet to comment on the matter. NAFDAC is urging retailers and consumers to exercise caution and avoid consuming any potentially contaminated products.

Individuals who have already consumed the affected items have been advised to seek immediate medical attention. Additionally, an inspection of the manufacturing site will be conducted to determine the cause of the contamination.
This recall follows a previous investigation by NAFDAC in May, when they probed a popular brand of noodles due to recalls in Malaysia and Taiwan, where a potentially cancer-causing substance was detected.
Consumers are advised to be vigilant and stay informed about product recalls to ensure their safety and well-being. NAFDAC remains committed to upholding the highest standards of food and drug safety in Nigeria, prioritizing the protection of consumers.
