Nigerian Boxer Dies After Collapsing Mid Fight in Ghana

Nigerian boxer Gabriel Oluwasegun Olanrewaju has tragically passed away after collapsing mid-fight during a professional boxing match in Ghana. The incident occurred on Saturday at the Bukom Boxing Arena in Accra, where he was competing in a light heavyweight bout against Ghanaian fighter Jon Mbanugu.

Oluwasegun, a former national and West African champion, lost consciousness in the third round of the match. Despite receiving immediate first aid, he was quickly transported to Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital, where medical personnel pronounced him dead approximately 30 minutes after his arrival.

“We are truly devastated by this loss,” Aboderin told BBC Sport Africa. “It is not something we ever imagined happening. We will do our best to support his family through this difficult time.”

Oluwasegun, who had a professional record of 23 fights, secured 13 victories and eight defeats throughout his career. His untimely passing has sent shockwaves through the African boxing community, with tributes pouring in from fellow fighters, fans, and sports officials.
