Nigerians have united in prayer and support for renowned music video director Thankgod Omori, popularly known as TG Omori, after he revealed the heartbreaking news of an unsuccessful kidney transplant surgery. The 29-year-old director, who is celebrated for his distinctive contributions to the Nigerian music industry, shared his ordeal in a candid post on his X (formerly Twitter) handle on Wednesday.

Omori disclosed that the surgery took place at St. Nicholas Hospital in Lagos, where he underwent the procedure to replace his failing kidney. The transplant, however, did not go as planned. “One year after my kidney crashed I just had a failed transplant at St. Nicholas Lagos. Pray for me,” he wrote, asking for prayers as he continues to fight the kidney ailment that has plagued him for over a year.

The director also revealed a deeply personal and emotional aspect of his journey: the kidney for the transplant had been donated by his only brother, in an act of love and desperation to save Omori’s life. “Yesterday, my only brother gave me one of his kidneys so I could live again,” Omori shared, expressing both his gratitude and the pain of the failed procedure.

In a series of Instagram Story posts, Omori shared images from his hospital bed, visibly emotional as tears streamed down his face. The photos, paired with his words, paint a picture of a man grappling with immense physical and emotional turmoil. He revealed that he had been operated on three times, adding, “Went into this theater 3 times, wasn’t just destined to die today.”

Omori’s openness about his health challenges has struck a chord with many Nigerians, who have responded with an outpouring of prayers and well-wishes across social media platforms. His story also brought back to light a 2023 tweet in which he lamented how fake drinks had taken a severe toll on his health. “It’s all fun and jokes, but fake drinks left me hospitalized most of this year,” he had tweeted, a statement that now takes on even greater significance in light of his current struggles.

This issue of fake and adulterated drinks is a known problem in Nigeria. The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) had raised alarms over the proliferation of these dangerous beverages, warning that the toxins in them can cause serious health issues, including liver and kidney damage. In particular, NAFDAC noted that such toxins can lead to kidney failure, which aligns with the health struggles Omori has been facing.

As TG Omori continues his fight for health, Nigerians are holding him in their thoughts and prayers, hoping for a miracle in the face of adversity.
