In a groundbreaking announcement, the National Television Authority (NTA) revealed on Wednesday that it has obtained exclusive broadcasting rights for all 52 matches of the 2023 African Cup of Nations (AFCON). This development follows MultiChoice’s decision not to broadcast the tournament on SuperSport (SS).

The NTA sealed this significant deal through a memorandum of understanding with Afro Sports, marking a pivotal move in bringing the excitement of the AFCON matches to audiences across Nigeria.

“In a groundbreaking move, the NTA and Afro Sports have inked a game-changing memorandum of understanding to broadcast 52 thrilling matches of the Africa Cup of Nations in Cote d’Ivoire,” announced NTA.

Last Wednesday, MultiChoice confirmed its inability to secure broadcasting rights for the 2023 AFCON. However, they assured fans that the AFCON 2023 games would be accessible through partner broadcast stations on Free to Air (FTA) channels.

The 2023 AFCON is set to kick off with the Group A match between the host nation, Ivory Coast, and Guinea Bissau at the Alassane Ouattara Stadium, Abidjan, on January 13, 2024.

Nigeria’s Super Eagles are part of Group A, alongside Ivory Coast, Equatorial Guinea, and Guinea Bissau. The Super Eagles will commence their AFCON journey against Equatorial Guinea at the Alassane Ouattara Stadium, Abidjan, on Sunday, January 14, at 2:00 pm.

With three AFCON titles under their belt from Nigeria 1980, Tunisia 1994, and South Africa 2013, the Super Eagles aim to secure their fourth championship in the 2023 tournament. Football enthusiasts can now look forward to enjoying all the action exclusively on NTA, heightening the anticipation for a thrilling AFCON competition.
