Rwandan President Paul Kagame was re-elected leader of the ruling Rwandan Patriotic Front (RPF-Inkotanyi) party at the party’s 16th congress on Sunday.
The Rwandan leader won 2,499 votes, accounting for 99.8% of the total vote, while his closest rival, Abdulkarim Harelimana, received 3 votes, or 0.2%, according to a Rwandan daily. The result delighted party supporters.
“I am very satisfied with the elections, the way they went and the results. Especially the re-election of the President of the Republic and the President of the RPF, Paul Kagame, who was re-elected with a very large majority of 99.8 percent.” Olivier Mugabonake, member of the RPF

Kagame, President of Rwanda for 22 years, will serve another five years as leader of the Rwandan Patriotic Front, the political party he has led since 1998.
RPF member Alice Orosaro Karikezi wants him to run for president again.
“It is true that he has done the job of all the Rwandans who have followed him on this issue. But it is true that the special character of his leadership has a lot to do with this success. As far as I’m concerned, if he should run for re-election (presidency) without hesitation,” Karikis said after the results were announced.
The 2,000 supporters of the Kigali Conference voted Sunday to celebrate the ruling party’s 35th anniversary since the end of the genocide.
