Romania has taken the decision to recall its ambassador to Kenya following allegations of racist remarks made by the diplomat.
Dragos Tigau, the ambassador in question, allegedly compared Africans to monkeys during a meeting at a United Nations building in Nairobi, Kenya’s capital, in April.
According to documents obtained by CNN, Tigau remarked, “The African group has joined us,” when a monkey appeared outside a window during the meeting.
African diplomats reportedly expressed their condemnation of the Romanian diplomat’s comments during a meeting with Eastern European envoys held in April. Tigau also sent two letters of apology to the diplomats, as revealed by CNN.

Romania’s Foreign Ministry released a statement on Saturday expressing their deep regret over the situation and offering apologies to all those affected. They further stated that they had only recently become aware of the incident that occurred in April.
The racist remarks made by the ambassador have led to his recall, as Romania takes a stand against such discriminatory behavior. The incident has raised concerns about the need for cultural sensitivity and respect among diplomats and international representatives.
The recall of the ambassador serves as a reminder of the importance of promoting inclusivity and combating racism in diplomatic circles.
