Senegal celebrated another remarkable victory as they clinched their fifth continental title by lifting the U17 Africa Cup of Nations trophy. In a thrilling final match at the Nelson Mandela Stadium in Algiers, Senegal staged a remarkable comeback to defeat Morocco 2-1.

Morocco’s captain, Abdelhamid Ait Boudlal, gave his team an early lead with a well-taken goal. However, Senegal fought back in the second half with an impressive display.

Serigne Falou Diouf equalized for the Teranga Cubs in the 79th minute, converting a penalty awarded with the help of VAR. The momentum continued for Senegal as Mamadou Sawane, a substitute, headed in the winning goal just seven minutes before the final whistle.

This victory adds to Senegal’s recent success in African football. Within the span of four months, the Senegalese national teams have secured three titles. The local-based players triumphed in the Africa Nations Championship (CHAN) in February, followed by the U20 AFCON title in Egypt in March.

The senior national team, known as the Lions of Teranga, set the tone for this period of dominance by winning the AFCON 2021 crown last year. Additionally, Senegal also claimed the AFCON Beach Soccer title in the same year.

The string of victories highlights the growing prowess of Senegal in African football across various age categories.

The success of the U17 team showcases the depth of talent within the country and bodes well for the future of Senegalese football. Fans and supporters are proud of their nation’s achievements and eagerly anticipate further triumphs on the continental and international stage.
