The Tanzanian entertainment industry is mourning the loss of one of its brightest stars, Carina, who passed away in India after a prolonged battle with a rare stomach illness. The popular Bongo actress died on April 15, just as she was preparing to return home to Tanzania following specialized treatment abroad.
Carina, known for her captivating roles in Tanzanian films and her magnetic on-screen presence, had been in and out of hospitals since 2023. In a desperate bid for recovery, she was flown to India where she underwent stomach surgery—one of more than 25 procedures she reportedly endured throughout her years-long fight against the disease.
Her passing was confirmed by her brother, Prince, who shared a heartfelt tribute on social media. Posting an old video of the two of them together, he wrote, “Nna lilah wainalilah rajiun, my sister.” The post has since drawn an outpouring of grief from fans, fellow actors, and supporters across East Africa.

Despite her illness, Carina remained hopeful and resilient. She frequently used her social media platforms to express gratitude to those who stood by her, and in October 2024, she made what would be her final public appeal for support to continue her treatment. Carina’s passing is not just a blow to the film community but also to her personal circle. She leaves behind a 14-year-old daughter, now facing life without the warm presence of a mother who was both a public figure and a deeply loving parent.
