If there is a sport that you would want to keep you electrified and in suspense, you should consider wrestling. The story of Professional Wrestling would not be complete if you don’t add some great African wrestlers. We have highlighted some of the African wrestlers in this blog.
Justin Gabriel, South Africa
South African Phillip Paul Lloyd used the ring name Justin Gabriel. He started wrestling at the age 16 and had fought in South Africa and the United Kingdom. He was the inaugural winner of the WWP World Cruiserweight Championship in World Wrestling Professionals as PJ Black.

He has won the FCW Florida Tag Team Championship, with Heath Slater, the duo won the WWE Tag Team Championship three times, and won the TNA King of the Mountain Championship.
Kofi Kingston, Ghana
Kofi Nahaje Sarkodie-Mensah trained as a professional wrestler after graduating from Boston University. His father, Kwasi, works at the college. Under the WWE, he won the WWE Championship as the first African-born wrestler. In addition he became a four-time WWE Intercontinental Champion, a three-time WWE United States Champion, and a eight-time WWE Tag Team Champion.
Apollo Crews, Nigeria
Sesugh Uhaa used the name Apollo Crews as a professional wrestler. He had fought alongside Stone Cold Steve Austin,The Rock and Kurt Angle. He made his debut in 2009 and went on to fight with many popular wrestlers.
In addition, he worked for Georgian independent circuit, Texas -based Pro Wrestling Alliance (PWA) and Phoenix City, Alabama -based Great Championship Wrestling (GCW).
Adam Rose, South Africa
Raymond John Leppan is a retired South African professional wrestler who fought as Adam Rose. He started fighting in 1995 with the South African independent circuit and signed with WWE in 2010.
Unfortunately, he suffered a lot of scandals, but that didn’t stop him from becoming a two-time FCW Florida Heavyweight Champion.
Moose, Nigeria
Quinn Ojinnaka was an American professional wrestler and former American football player, with the ring name Moose. He was a former two-time Impact Grand Champion, and the GWF Heavyweight Champion.
Moose had worked for Revolution Pro Wrestling, Evolve Wrestling, Ring of Honor , New Japan Pro-Wrestling and Pro Wrestling Noah. Finally, he played college football at Syracuse.
He was drafted by the Atlanta Falcons, New England Patriots, St. Louis Rams , and Indianapolis Colts.
Kamala, Uganda
Kamala was a Ugandan Giant who terrified his opponents on the ring. Kim Chee was his long-time handler, who helped with communication because he spoke no English. He worked as a bodyguard for Ugandan leader Idi Amin. Kamala was unique in his wrestling outfits like wearing loin cloth, face paint, and moons and stars painted on his chest.
Kamala didn’t win the WWE Championship, but went on to fight Hulk Hogan on several occasions.
Ezekwesiri “EJ” Nduka Jr, Nigeria
Ezekwesiri “EJ” Nduka Jr. was a professional wrestler, professional IFBB bodybuilder and former professional gridiron footballer. He has stints with CFL and NFL teams after college before joining WWE. In addition, Nduka was a star in track, basketball, and a dual sport letterwinner.
Konga, Egypt
Mohammed Fahim, AKA Konga was trained by his brother Khaled Konga. He won first place in his championships in boxing for the years 2007, 2008, 2009, and 2010. He also won MMA matches in 2013.
In 2017, he was among the athletes that represented 18 countries to participate in the WWE’s second-ever Dubai tryouts.
David Daniel Otunga, Kenya
David Daniel Otunga, Sr. was a two-time WWE Tag Team Champion and a member of NXT season 1. He was a member of the professional wrestling stable. He graduated from Larkin High School and holds a Bachelor’s degree in psychology from the University of Illinois. David later attended Harvard Law School, and passed the bar exam in Illinois.
Babatunde Aiyegbusi, Nigeria
Babatunde Aiyegbusi has a Nigerian father and Polish mother, and was a professional wrestler and former American football player. He worked with the WWE. He played the American football, The Crew Wroclaw, Giants Wroclaw and Warsaw Eagles in the Polish American Football League and for Dresden Monarchs in the German Football League.
