Travis Scott’s mixtape Days Before Rodeo, first released a decade ago, has officially made music history. One month after its re-release on streaming platforms, the mixtape became the highest-selling mixtape of all time. Scott, who announced the re-release in celebration of its 10th anniversary, also launched an exclusive digital deluxe edition with new tracks, a vinyl version, and a sold-out live performance in Atlanta. During the one-night-only show, the rapper performed most of the mixtape, a move that further cemented the project’s legendary status.

The re-release of Days Before Rodeo has allowed Scott to set a number of new records, including his fourth consecutive No. 1 album on the Billboard charts. This achievement puts him in line with his previous chart-topping albums: Utopia (2023), Astroworld (2018), and Birds in the Trap Sing McKnight (2016). In addition to this feat, Days Before Rodeo became the highest-selling rap album of 2024, surpassing Eminem’s The Death of Slim Shady (Coup de Grâce).

Though it didn’t immediately top the charts—initially falling behind Sabrina Carpenter’s latest release—the mixtape quickly gained momentum. According to Billboard, Scott also set a new record for the highest-selling vinyl sales week for a rap album, ranking sixth for vinyl sales across all music genres since tracking began in 1991 by Luminate. In the week ending September 19, Scott sold 156,000 album units, with an impressive 149,000 of those coming from vinyl sales through his webstore.

Originally released in 2014 as a free mixtape on SoundCloud, Days Before Rodeo features collaborations with several major artists including Migos, Big Sean, Young Thug, and Rich Homie Quan. With production from the likes of Metro Boomin, Lex Luger, and Wondagurl, the project was mixed and mastered by Mike Dean and Alex Tumay. The mixtape became a significant turning point in Scott’s career, helping him break into mainstream hip-hop during the tail end of the Blog Era.

In addition to the mixtape’s resurgence, Scott continues to dominate the live music scene. After completing a leg of his CIRCUS MAXIMUS tour in Latin America, he will return to the U.S. for a special performance at New Jersey’s MetLife Stadium on October 9.

With Days Before Rodeo breaking records a decade after its initial release, Travis Scott’s enduring influence on the music industry remains undeniable, as his creative vision continues to push the boundaries of hip-hop.
