In a shocking turn of events, Martine MoĂŻse, the widow of former Haitian President Jovenel MoĂŻse, has been charged in connection with his assassination. This latest development comes after a two-year investigation into the tragic event that unfolded on July 7, 2021, when President MoĂŻse was fatally shot at his private residence in Port-au-Prince by a group of Colombian mercenaries.

The charges against Martine MoĂŻse, including “complicity and criminal association,” were revealed in a leaked legal document obtained by a Haitian news site. This document, spanning 122 pages, accuses MoĂŻse and 50 other suspects of involvement in the assassination plot.

Martine MoĂŻse, who sustained injuries during the attack that claimed her husband’s life, has yet to issue any specific comments on the charges. However, she has taken to social media to denounce what she perceives as “unjust arrests” and a “never-ending persecution.” Her current whereabouts remain unknown.

Among the evidence cited in the leaked document are allegations of contradictory statements made by Martine MoĂŻse following her husband’s murder, raising doubts about her credibility.

Lyonel Valbrun, former secretary general at Haiti’s National Palace, claims that MoĂŻse visited the palace two days before the assassination and spent several hours removing items. Valbrun further alleges that MoĂŻse expressed dissatisfaction with her husband’s presidency and indicated prior knowledge of the impending events during a phone call on the same day.

Joseph Felix Badio, a former Haitian Justice Ministry official, accuses Martine MoĂŻse of conspiring to oust her husband from power in collaboration with then-Prime Minister Claude Joseph, who is also facing charges of conspiracy and criminal association.

Claude Joseph, however, denies involvement and instead accuses current Prime Minister Ariel Henry of targeting him and MoĂŻse, alleging that Henry was the main beneficiary of President MoĂŻse’s murder.

Despite reports of phone calls between Prime Minister Ariel Henry and one of the suspects in the hours after the assassination, Henry has not been indicted by Judge Walther Wesser Voltaire. Henry maintains that he does not recall receiving such a call and dismisses allegations linking him to MoĂŻse’s murder as “fake news.”

The latest charges against Martine MoĂŻse add another layer of complexity to the ongoing investigation into President Jovenel MoĂŻse’s assassination, a case that continues to captivate both Haiti and the international community. As the legal proceedings unfold, the quest for justice and accountability in this high-profile case remains paramount.
