The vibrant world of Afrobeats found itself in the midst of turmoil as two of Nigeria’s biggest musical stars, Wizkid and Davido, engaged in a heated online exchange on Monday night.
The feud ignited when Wizkid, known for his chart-topping hits and global acclaim, threw shade at Davido by posting a leaked video on X, purportedly showing Davido pleading with a female associate.
The Grammy award-winning singer didn’t stop there, dismissing the renowned music producer and label owner, Don Jazzy, as a mere ‘influencer,’ sparking uproar among fans and followers on the micro-blogging platform.
Not one to back down, Davido responded with a series of cryptic tweets believed to be aimed at Wizkid. In one tweet, he cryptically remarked, “Dem no know your Gbedu,” seemingly in response to Wizkid’s announcement of his upcoming Morayo album set for release in May.

He further emphasized his stance with another tweet, stating, “When light comes, darkness vanishes. Let’s get active,” and shared a video of his wife, Chioma Adeleke, with the caption, “They were trying to distract us, baby no mind dem.”
Undeterred, Wizkid fired back with a tweet mocking Davido’s entourage and implying superiority in music. “You and all your crew plus your pant washer songwriter go to sleep at night thinking you got anything on me in music 🤣😂 wish you all well ✌️,” he jabbed. Following up, he delivered another blow, stating, “You know what.. no point. delusional niggas 😇 pray for y’all,” prompting Davido to retort with accusations of illness, signaling deep-seated animosity between the two Afrobeat stars.
This public spat between Wizkid and Davido comes as a surprise to many, especially considering their recent display of camaraderie when spotted hugging in a Lagos night club. Just last year, Wizkid had announced plans for a joint tour with Davido after the release of his fifth studio album, ‘More Love, Less Ego (MLLE).’
Despite occasional collaborations and joint performances, the relationship between these two musical powerhouses has often been marked by tension and rivalry.
As fans eagerly await further developments, the rift between Wizkid and Davido serves as a reminder of the complexities and competition within the dynamic Afrobeats industry, where talent and ego collide on the global stage.
