Dame Izzy Montague, a devout Christian mother, sued her son’s school, Hevers Farm Primary School, in South Norwood, London, for forcing him to take part in an LGBT pride march.

The 28-year-old told the Central District Court in London that the school forced her son to participate in a “most serious mortal sin”.

According to Metro, on June 19, 2018, the school sent a letter to parents inviting their children to participate in the Pride Parade.

Students were encouraged to “celebrate the differences that make them and their families special.”

But Montague opposed the Pride event, saying her four-year-old son would not be attending.

She contacted the school and said his participation in the LGBT celebration would repeat “a public demonstration of her commitment to views that she has not accepted”.

However, director Susan Papas denied her request, prompting the woman to respond with a lengthy email.

Montague met with Ms Papas on September 19 in which the headteacher’s daughter wore a T-shirt with the slogan: “Why be racist, sexist, homophobic, or transphobic when you could just be quiet?”, the court heard.

Judge Christopher Lethem described the woman and her husband as “devout, born-again Christians who believe that sexual relations are to be avoided or pursued within a lifelong marriage between a man and a woman and any activity outside of those limits is a sin.”

“They also say that pride is one of the most serious mortal sins,” he added.

It was the first time a UK court had examined the legality of teaching LGBT issues in primary schools.

While the school defended the show, saying it’s “a celebration of what makes kids proud,” the woman disagreed.

“I felt like she was giving a lecture on British values and somehow we didn’t stick to British values,” Montague said.
