Kanye West said he was breaking free from anti-Semitism in a new Instagram post on Saturday, writing that seeing actor Jonah Hill in 21 Jump Street made him “like Jewish people again.”

The rapper – officially known as Ye – has shocked and angered his former followers with a spate of anti-Jewish threats in recent months, which has led to sporting goods giant Adidas and other fashion houses evicting him, while he was eventually forced to take a social media break.

However, the rapper recently returned to Instagram where he has since brought up yet another controversial subject.

“Watching Jonah Hill in 21 Jump street made me like Jewish people again, [sic]” he wrote.

“No one should take anger against one or two individuals and transform that into hatred towards millions of innocent people, [sic]” he continued.

“No Christian can be labeled antisemite knowing Jesus is Jew Thank you Jonah Hill I love you. [sic]”

Some social media users appeared to greet the declaration with humour, but many were not buying it.

“Doesn’t work that way Kanye. Damage is already done. The seeds of hate you planted already sprouted,” one wrote on Twitter.

The rapper, who is open about his battle with mental illness, has seen his business relationships fall apart in recent months as his erratic behavior and extreme rhetoric remain a cause for concern.

He was also briefly banned from Instagram last year for violating social media’s harassment policy while divorcing reality star Kim Kardashian.

Adidas said earlier this month that it is still considering what to do with its vast stash of West’s Yeezy merchandise, having ended its partnership last October.

The group, which released its 2022 results, said not selling clothing and shoes for the West would likely result in a 1.2 billion euro ($1.3 billion) loss in sales.
