The mother of a 6-year-old girl who tragically died in the Bronx, has been arrested and charged with endangering the welfare of a child. The arrest came on Saturday following the ongoing investigation into the death of the young girl.

Jalayah Eason, the 6-year-old victim, was rushed to the hospital on Friday after her mother called 911 to report her injuries.

Unfortunately, she was pronounced dead shortly after arriving at NYC Health + Hospitals/Lincoln. Police observed bruising and trauma on her wrists and torso, prompting further investigation.

Authorities found the child unconscious in her mother’s bedroom at the Forest Houses on East 165th Street in Morrisania.

The apartment where they resided was described as squalid, with clothes and belongings scattered throughout. A downstairs neighbor reported frequently hearing crying coming from the apartment.

In addition to the charges against Lynija Eason, two other children, an 8-year-old boy, and a 3-year-old girl, were removed from the household by the Administration for Children’s Services (ACS). These children also showed signs of older injuries.

Detectives are currently questioning Lynija Eason regarding the circumstances leading to Jalayah’s death. The cause of death will be determined through an autopsy performed by the medical examiner.

As the investigation continues, the community mourns the loss of a young life and hopes for justice to be served in this heartbreaking case.
