Kenya’s parliament head has directed the education ministry to investigate allegations against Daystar University, a private Christian institution near Nairobi, accused of compelling Muslim students to attend Christian services.

The university is further alleged to withhold grades from students who do not participate in chapel services, sparking concerns about religious discrimination and freedom of worship.

The accusations surfaced during a parliamentary session led by Kenyan MP Mohammed Ali, who condemned the university’s actions as a violation of individuals’ rights to practice their religion freely.

However, Daystar University refutes these claims, stating that it maintains an inclusive environment despite its Christian ethos.

Responding to the allegations, Education Minister Ezekiel Machogu conveyed the university’s position, emphasizing that students willingly enroll at Daystar University, acknowledging its Christian values and spiritual activities. He noted that students are required to attend 75% of chapel services each semester as part of the institution’s ethos.

Additionally, the education ministry will investigate claims made by Mr. Ali regarding the alleged promotion of LGBTQ ideas within the university’s curriculum, signaling a broader inquiry into the institution’s educational practices and adherence to religious and moral standards.
