Nollywood Mourns as Veteran Actor Mr Ibu Passes Away

Nollywood has been plunged into mourning following the demise of veteran actor John Okafor, popularly known as Mr Ibu. The iconic actor, aged 62, breathed his last at Evercare Hospital in Lagos State after a prolonged battle with illness.

Mr Ibu had been grappling with health challenges that eventually led to the amputation of both his legs. Reports indicate that he was diagnosed with diseased blood vessels, which necessitated the drastic measure to preserve his life.

In November 2023, his family made a public appeal for financial assistance from well-meaning Nigerians, citing Mr Ibu’s deteriorating health condition. They revealed that he was experiencing persistent clotting of the blood in his leg, coupled with other health complications, which posed a grave risk to his life. Consequently, one of his legs had to be amputated to avert further complications arising from an infection of the arteries at the ankle.

Mr ObiThe news of Mr Ibu’s passing has been met with an outpouring of tributes from his colleagues in the Nigerian entertainment industry. Esteemed actress Mercy Johnson Okojie expressed her condolences, stating, “It is well… Rest well sir…” Similarly, Ruth Kadiri bid farewell to the departed actor, saying, “Sleep well Papa.”

The Actor Guild of Nigeria (AGN) has also confirmed Mr Ibu’s demise, with the president of the Guild, Emeka Rollas, announcing the sad news on social media. According to Mr Ibu’s manager of 24 years, Don Single Nwuzor, the actor succumbed to cardiac arrest.

As the curtain falls on the illustrious career of Mr Ibu, his legacy as a comedic genius and beloved entertainer will continue to resonate within the hearts of fans and colleagues alike. May his soul rest in peace.
