Super Eagles winger Ademola Lookman has been crowned the 2024 CAF Player of the Year, cementing his place as one of Africa’s brightest football stars. The announcement was made on Monday night at a grand ceremony in Marrakech, Morocco.
Lookman, who plays for Atalanta in Serie A, emerged victorious over a formidable shortlist that included Ivory Coast’s Simon Adingra, PSG’s Achraf Hakimi, Guinea striker Serhou Guirassy, and South African goalkeeper Ronwen Williams.

The award caps off a remarkable year for the 27-year-old. Lookman made history in May by becoming the first player since 1975 to score a hat-trick in a Europa League/UEFA Cup final, delivering three goals in just 26 minutes against Bayer Leverkusen. His stellar performance earned him a spot in the Europa League Team of the Year.
For Atalanta, Lookman was a key figure, directly contributing to 18 goals in Serie A during the 2023/2024 season. His achievements didn’t go unnoticed on the global stage, as he was ranked 14th at the prestigious Ballon d’Or gala in October.
