Nigerian musicians including Afrobeats star, Burna Boy, Tems, Wizkid, Fireboy DML, and CKay have received nominations for this year’s American Music Awards (AMAs), scheduled for November 20 at the Microsoft Theater in Los Angeles, USA.
Now in its 50th year, the AMAs is one of the world’s largest fan-voted awards, recognizing the excellence of the most popular artists and exceptional albums.
Nigerians were selected in the newly introduced Favorite Afrobeats Artist category to recognize the exceptional impact of the genre in the US and around the world.
Aided by her performance on Wizkid’s hit Essence, Tems leads the African contingent at the awards after earning nominations in three other categories, namely Collaboration of the Year, Favorite Hip Hop Song and Favorite R&B Song.”

Wizkid garnered nominations in two categories, the other being a favorite R&B song.
The most nominated artists worldwide include Latin American artist Bad Bunny, with eight, followed by American singers Beyoncé and Taylor Swift, with six nominations each. English pop stars Adele and Harry Styles, as well as Canada’s The Weeknd, follow with five nominations each.
The 2022 AMAs will be broadcast in over 120 countries and territories worldwide.
