Hurdles world record-holder, Tobi Amusan, has been charged with an alleged anti-doping rule violation, raising concerns about her participation in the upcoming world championships.
In an Instagram post on Wednesday, the Nigerian athlete confirmed that the Athletics Integrity Unit (AIU) had charged her with a violation for missing three tests within a 12-month period.
Amusan, who set the current women’s 100m hurdles world record of 12.12 seconds at last year’s World Athletics Championships, expressed her determination to fight the charge and have her case heard by a tribunal of three arbitrators before the start of the world championships in Budapest next month.
The 26-year-old athlete declared her faith in a favorable resolution and her belief in her status as a clean athlete, citing her regular testing by the AIU.

Despite the doping charge hanging over her, Amusan recently participated in the Silesia Diamond League competition in Poland, where she established a new meeting record of 12.34 seconds.
However, at the Golden Spike athletics meet in the Czech Republic last month, she finished third in the women’s 100m hurdles, falling short of reigning Olympic champion Jasmine Camacho-Quinn of Puerto Rico.
Amusan, known for her exceptional speed and agility, remains confident about the future, even suggesting the possibility of breaking the 11-second barrier. However, she voiced her opposition to raising the height of the hurdles, emphasizing her petite stature of 5’1″ (156 centimeters).
As the charges loom over her, Amusan and her legal team will now focus on preparing her defense in hopes of securing her participation in the highly anticipated world championships.
