We’ve got a special South African recipe for you in this article. We’ll be taking you through simple steps on how to prepare Chakalaka.

In case this is your first time hearing about this dish, Chakalaka is a spicy tomato bean dish.

This vegetarian meal can be classified as a salsa, a relish, a condiment, or a main dish, depending on what it is served with.

The most typical way to make chakalaka is to sauté finely chopped vegetables like onions, carrots, and garlic with spices like curry powder or leaf masala, bell peppers, fresh tomatoes or tomato sauce, baked beans, and seasonings.

Ginger, chilies, cauliflower, shredded cabbage, and any other ingredients you have can be added if you want.

Research claims that this recipe was initially developed by men who worked in goldmines. It is believed that these men prepared this sumptuous dish by combining various vegetables and legumes.

After some while, other South African tribes, like the Zulus, adopted the dish.

Chakalaka goes well with bread, coarsely chopped corn kernel pap, curries, and different stews.

Depending on the proportion of tomato sauce used, the texture might range from that of a salad to that of a soup.

Chakalaka is a great option for a quick fix in the kitchen because it can be prepared in less than 30 minutes and it can stay for days if refrigerated and canned properly.
