Former US President Donald Trump has been arrested on criminal charges.

He was arrested Tuesday before his trial in Manhattan Criminal Court.

The charges relate to money paid to adult film star Stormy Daniels in 2016 before he became America’s first citizen.

Shortly before his arrest, Trump used his media platform Truth Social to express his shock.

“Heading to Lower Manhattan, the courthouse. Seems so SURREAL — WOW, they are going to ARREST ME. Can’t believe this is happening in America. MAGA!” he said.

The indictment was brought against Trump by a grand jury last week.

Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg’s indictment represents the first criminal charge against Trump, but it’s not the only potential legal issue the former president is facing, according to CNN.

Special Counsel Jack Smith is still working on an investigation into Trump’s role in the January 6, 2021 attack on the Capitol and the handling of classified documents at Mar-a-Lago.

Trump arrived in New York on his plane from Palm Beach on Monday afternoon. He spent the night at Trump Tower and drove 4 miles south to the courthouse in Midtown Manhattan on Tuesday afternoon.

NYPD and the US Secret Service have been planning Trump’s possible court appearance for weeks.
