Collins Obinna Chibueze, better known as Shaboozey, is making waves in the country music scene, earning two prestigious nominations at the 2024 Country Music Awards (CMA). The Nigerian-American artist was nominated for New Artist of the Year, while his chart-topping hit, Tipsy (A Bar Song), was recognized in the Single of the Year category.

In a heartfelt message shared on X (formerly Twitter) on Monday, Shaboozey expressed his joy and disbelief at the achievement. Reflecting on a song he wrote years ago that predicted his future success, he said, “Wrote a song about winning a CMA in 2016, and now I’m nominated for 2! Thank you @CountryMusic and congrats to the other nominees. What an honor would be an understatement. #CMAawards.”

Shaboozey’s unique journey to the CMA nominations is not just a personal victory, but also a step forward for Black country musicians. He took a moment to pay tribute to Beyoncé, whose groundbreaking work in country music has helped pave the way for artists like him. Shaboozey acknowledged Beyoncé’s 2020 country album Cowboy Cater as a trailblazer, writing, “Thank you @Beyonce for opening a door for us, starting a conversation, and giving us one of the most innovative country albums of all time!”

Despite receiving no nominations for this year’s CMAs, Beyoncé’s influence on the genre continues to be felt, and Shaboozey credits her for helping shape his career. He has previously stated that working with Beyoncé on Cowboy Caterwas a life-changing experience.

Shaboozey’s rise in country music has been marked by his ability to blend genres, creating a sound that is both fresh and authentic. His hit single Tipsy (A Bar Song), which soared to number one on the Billboard Hot 100, is a testament to his growing influence in the industry.

As Shaboozey continues to break barriers and gain recognition, his nominations at the 2024 Country Music Awards highlight a new era in country music, where diversity and innovation are celebrated. His journey is an inspiration for aspiring musicians, especially those from underrepresented communities, and a sign that the future of country music is more inclusive than ever.
