Global Streaming Service, Prime Video Launch First African Original Film, ‘Gangs of Lagos’

Prime Video, a  global streaming service today announced the release of its first African original film, Gangs of Lagos.

The film is expected to be released on April 7th in Nigeria, Sub-Saharan Africa, and worldwide exclusively on Prime Video.

‘Gangs of Lagos’ is directed by acclaimed director Jáde Osiberu, and is one of this year’s most anticipated films from the world’s second-largest film industry, Nollywood.

Prime Video also revealed key art with a teaser trailer and character posters for the said film.

Gangs of Lagos is a risqué, action, crime thriller with a true story that revolves around a group of childhood friends who each must navigate their own destiny in the busy streets and neighborhood of Isale Eko, Lagos.

It offers well-crafted sets, action scenes, and engaging dialogue, all balanced by a fast pace and an emotionally grounded story at its core.

Jáde Osiberu will direct and produce with Tobi Bakre, Adesua Itomi-Wellington, Chike Osebuka, Chioma Chukwuka, and Iyabo Ojo.

Gangs of Lagos builds on Prime Video’s commitment to bringing authentic, homegrown African films and series to a global audience, including an exclusive package with the film’s director and producer, Jáde Osiberu, and his production company Greoh Studios, which recently launched the acclaimed movie, Brotherhood.

Prime Video also hosts some of Nigeria’s biggest blockbusters, with exclusive licensing deals with Inkblot Studios and Anthill Studios, giving customers the blockbusters King of Thieves, Hey You!, Palava! as well as other series from TV Beyond the Veil and Grind.

In addition, Prime Video’s original Nigerian comedy series, LOL: Last One Laughing Naija, hosted by acclaimed comedian and multifaceted artist Basketmouth, will launch later this year.
