South African Rapper, AKA, Shot Dead In Drive-by Shooting

Durban police sources have confirmed that rapper Kernon “AKA” Forbes was shot and killed in a drive-by shootout on a Florida street on Friday night.

Another person believed to be AKA’s bodyguard was also injured, while another unidentified person believed to be a close friend of AKA’s was shot dead.

County police have yet to officially comment on the killings, but the IOL independently confirmed this with law enforcement sources, who cannot be identified as they are not authorized to speak to the media.

AKA is said to have been outside Wish’s restaurant when he was shot in a drive-by.

Two unidentified vehicles reportedly opened fire just before 10 p.m.

Police had cordoned off the area when the media teams arrived at the scene Friday night.

Speaking to IOL, stunned customers nearby said AKA was outside Wish when he was shot.

Gareth Jamieson, a spokesman for ALS Paramedics, said Florida Road was closed after the Florida Road shooting, in which two people were confirmed dead.

Among the dead was a “famous rapper,” Jamieson said.

The identity of the second person who was shot is currently unknown but is believed to have been a close friend of AKA.

According to social media posts, AKA was set to perform at the YUGO nightclub in Durban, where he was due to perform as part of his birthday celebration.

His close friend Da Lys took to social media to express his shock.
