Rigobert Song, the former captain of the Cameroon national football team, has announced his departure from his role as head coach. The news was confirmed by Samuel Eto’o, president of the Cameroonian Football Federation (Fecafoot), following Cameroon’s recent elimination from the Africa Cup of Nations (CAN) by Nigeria.

Song, who has been in charge of the Indomitable Lions for almost two years, faced scrutiny after the team’s disappointing performance in the recent tournament held in Côte d’Ivoire. Despite his significant contributions, the executive committee of Fecafoot decided not to renew his contract.

Samuel Eto’o acknowledged Song’s efforts but emphasized that the team had not achieved its objectives under his leadership. Consequently, the Ministry of Sports issued a letter on February 28, stating the non-renewal of Song’s contract.

Minister Narcisse Mouelle Kombi cited financial constraints as the reason for the decision, as the state, responsible for Song’s remuneration, found it untenable to continue his role as manager and head coach of the Indomitable Lions.
