Over the years, we have seen many African men embrace success during track races. We cannot ignore their achievements because these men have become a focal point when it comes to celebrating the best runners of all time.  Thanks to the terrain of the North Africa and East Africa that have modeled men and women to become successful on any track in the world.

We have listed some of the top male runners in Africa;

Kipchoge Keino is a Kenyan athlete and forerunner of Kenyan famed runners who have broken world records. Keino won two Olympic titles and other world records.

Noureddine Morceli followed his eldest brother, Abderahmane’s record holding and went on to break world records in the 1,500 metre distance race and the Olympic Games.

Geoffrey Mutai -Kenya

Geoffrey Mutai is a Kenyan who specialized in cross-country running. He set the best all-time marathon performance and  won the New York Marathon.

Wilson Kipsang Kiprotich-Kenya

Wilson Kipsang Kiprotich is a Kenyan athlete who specializes in cross-country running. He won the Frankfurt Marathon, achieved the second best world performance of all time and the London Marathon.

Haile Gebrselassie -Ethiopia

Haile Gebrselassie has been regarded as one of the greatest runners that ever lived. He won many World Championship titles and has registered his name as a legend.

Said Aouita -Morocco

Said Aouita was an undisputed champion in the eighties, having being dubbed as  “The man with the five records.”  He was respected and commanded respect for his feats in the world champions and Olympic Games.

Hicham El Guerrouj-Morocco

Hicham-El-Guerrouj asserted the throne of the kings of the middle distance race, having won and broken World records. His greatest achievement was when he won a double in the Olympic Games of Athens in 2004.

Kenenisa Bekele -Ethiopia

Kenenisa Bekele was the successor of Haile Gebrselassie, having won awards in the long distance races.

Paul Tergat-Kenya

Paul Tergat is a Kenyan whose marathon world records are eloquent in both the Olympic Games and World games.

Henry Rono -Kenya

Henry Rono is a Kenyan athlete with a four international gold medals. He made news around the world with his track race records.
