Wizkid Becomes First African Artist To Win An American Music Awards, Wins Afrobeats Award and R&B Favorite

Popular Nigerian singer Ayo Balogun, better known as Wizkid, made history as the first African and Nigerian to win an American Music Award.

The tweet read, “Congrats to @wizkidayo and @temsbaby! “Essence” won an #AMAs for “Favorite R&B Song!”.

His latest achievement was announced on the awards organizers’ blue Twitter account on Sunday.

Wizkid also beat Burna Boy, CKay, Fireboy DML and Tems to win the Favorite Afrobeats Artist award.
