Zambian authorities on Tuesday arrested eight Croatians again and prevented them from leaving the country after a court dropped child trafficking charges against them the day before.

“I can confirm that they were re-arrested on orders from the NPA (National Law Enforcement Agency). I’m not sure of the charges against them,” Immigration Service spokeswoman Namati Nchinka told The Associated Press.

Zambian authorities prevented the eight Croatians – four couples – from boarding a plane to leave the South African country.

On Monday, a court dismissed child trafficking charges against them at the request of their lawyers. They had already pleaded not guilty to the charges.

The indictment alleges that the four couples cooperated in trafficking children on December 7 last year. The young children were from neighboring Congo and the couple said they were adopted through a lawyer.

Among the eight are Zoran Suposek, 52, guitarist of the famous band Hladno Bevo or Cold Beer, and Imovic Suposek, 41, administrator, according to Croatian media.

Others are Damir Majik, 44, electrician, Nadek Majik, 45, technician, Ladislav Peric, 42, doctor, Aleksandra Peric, 43, beauty salon operator, Noah Kraljevic, 40, program manager and Yvonna Kraljevic, 36, dog handler.

And in Croatia, the country’s foreign ministry said on Monday that the four couples had been ordered to leave Zambia within 48 hours.
