According to a statement by the Supreme Muslim Council of Uganda (UMSC), Muslims in Uganda are holding peaceful demonstrations against homosexuality.

The February 11 letter announcing the protest was published for all mosques to express their opposition to homosexuality and say that addiction has reared its ugly head, especially among young people.

The UMSC’s appeal comes after the Uganda Interfaith Council (IRCU) issued a statement expressing concern about the growing promotion of the lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) agenda in the country.

Deputy Mufti Sheikh Muhammad Warsaw said the main aim of the demonstration was to raise awareness and strengthen the role of religious leaders in this struggle after the Ugandan Church decided to secede from the English Church, which it said endorse Same-Sex Relationships.

â€śNationally, reports on homosexuality have been coming out   with the aim of provoking the public …and this has forced us not to keep silent; instead remind the public on how we can fight it,” he said.

He added that there was a need to focus more on areas targeted by clients, particularly schools. He advised parents not to bring their children to the barracks if possible.

â€śParents need to follow up their children when they are at home to identify their characters; this duty should not be left to teachers only because they have a huge number of children with different characters,” he said.

Yesterday the spokesman for the Muslim faction of Kabuli, Dr. Muhammad Kigundu said campaigns against homosexuality had already started through seminars for children.

He stressed the need for concerted efforts by various government agencies, particularly to protect children.
